Not Playable
If you stick to a reasonable resolution and get a compatible joy you will be ok.
After coming out of flight scene in high res, the game menus would often black out and I would have to terminate the app from GNU\Linux command line.
Full screen would often black out after coming out of flight scene. I would then have to kill -9 the process from GNU\Linux command line.
I can't figure out how to disable SDL in Proton Wine. The registry hack didn't seem to work so well for me tonight. I may try again some other day, but life was much easier when joysticks were at /dev/input/js* instead of /dev/input/event*. I used to know how to hack the joystick driver in the kernel. Not anymore... I had some luck using xboxdrv (https://xboxdrv.gitlab.io/) to remap my Sidewinder but unfortunately the throttle and rudder still had issues even after using that tool to send them to them to emulated lt and rt XBox buttons. I tried disabling SDL in Wine with a registry hack but that didn't get me very far either.
As long as you don't have a SiderWInder Precision Pro (Version1) joystick, you should have fun with this game.
Remappings from jstest-gtk were ignored... Steam Proton seems to be bypassing /dev/input/js0
Throttle mapped to bizarre location which is a major problem. To use throttle you have to twist the joystick on the Z-Axis which should be the rudder. No rudder at all and throttle is on the Z-Axis. Totally annoying. Mappings are likely correct in the sidewinder.c kernel driver. jstest-gtk remaps joystick fine but Steam Overload seems to be ignoring /dev/input/js0 for some crazy reason. I'm not sure what I need to do to fake Steam Proton into reading my joystick correctly. I'm willing to use a joystick emulation layer but this wouldn't be a problem if Steam Proton would just read from /dev/input/js0 like a sensible program... I'm using Proton 6.3-3

Intro video is black, otherwise seems to work fine.

Performance is very good, there could be some problems if you tab out
