The audio specifically for the tutorial narrator is a bit borked. Crackles a lot. Otherwise audio is fine.
Rare slight slowdown. Nothing crazy.
I use Proton Experimental as the default choice for my entire library. Game runs fine immediately after installation. Only issue so far is the audio for the tutorial narrator crackles. Other audio seems fine. On occassion there's a slowdown/stutter, nothing crazy. Game seems to generally work fine.
Until the error is fixed or somebody here finds a work around the game being unplayable after one reloaded save is a major issue.
When reloading save game loading menu sitcks along with other menus yet to solve issue essentialy makes game unplayable after exiting and reloading 1 save.
As stated loading screen and any menus remain graphicly unremovable.
Potentially altering graphics settings or changing to a differant proton version may work but so far our of box expeirance was great untill reload.
Rare but selected units' highlight can be broken.
RTS view is fine but the game stutters in third person view.
Also disabling vsync greatly improved the performance.

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
Use PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 or may get Access violation error.
Played GOG version with Proton 7.0-1 and params PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE
Mouse pointer flickers all the time (goes invisible and visible quickly) when moving mouse around, so it's not a good experience
Mouse pointer flickers when in movement (turns invisible and comes back), making it practically impossible to use.
If it wasn't for the mouse "flicker" issue, game would be fully playable with no problems.

Unable to load maps
Crashes on Access Violation error.

The game would not start for me because the "config.xml" file contained the wrong screen resolution. I disabled "Steam Cloud sync" and edited the "config.xml" file in "/path to your /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/39550/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/SpellForce2/" folder to the exact resolution of my desktop. In my case it is screenheight="1050" screenwidth="1680".
The game runs fine from within Steam now.

In general, it works perfectly - I have just experienced some minor graphic bugs like overlapping textures, but it is nothing that affects the gameplay.

Use PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 tweak to avoid Access Violation. Game have shadow lags and mid perfomance ~30fps and ~45fps if set water settings to normal.

loading into campain crashes the game with an access violation error but the freeplay works normaly except for slight shadow flickering

Starts normal, but when trying to start a campaign I can't get past loading screen (right after the intro sequence). A window opens in the background stating "Access Violation" error.

gliches, 14fps
