My report says experimental because I always run experimental by default.

So far, that's the only option I've found to normally play this game on Linux. Proton from Steam simply can't launch the game, tested versions down to Proton 7. Wine can run it, but the game crashes in settings and other menus. Latest ProtonGE also can't launch it.

The game doesn't work with Proton from Steam
I've tried these Proton versions: GE-Proton9-16 Proton Experimental Proton 9.0-3 Proton 8.0-5 Proton 7.0-6 None of them work, the game just "Starting", may compile shaders and stop launching. Running it with Wine works, but it crashes on many menus.

Tries to sync saves with cloud, but never does that and can't launch the game.
May work with direct launch (by running script in the game directory) but I didn't try that, just installing and clicking Play doesn't work

Problem'less for the most part.
I am unable to see if it is just me but was unable to import saves from the Steam cloud when on native...
Works perfectly

Proton performance is notably worse than native Linux performance.
Running the Windows version with Proton, I loaded a few different levels and I saw significant frame rate drops in some places (especially with explosions and lots of enemies), whereas I had never noticed any performance problems in the native Linux version.
I had decided to try running the Windows version with Proton because the Linux version didn't recognize my mouse wheel (which is used to switch weapons by default). However, I used Proton only briefly because of the performance issues; the Linux version is still playable even with default controls because the space bar is also used to toggle between the primary and secondary weapons.
