The game works perfectly fine on Steam Deck, but currently requires manually selecting Proton 10 as a compatibility tool
Local multiplayer works, no issues
The game started working with Proton 10 (currently it's still in beta). Older versions didn't launch the game at all.
The default "Install" and "Play" buttons on Steam will use "Proton Hotfix" (or maybe "Proton 9", I'm not 100% sure) instead of the currently working "Proton 10". So, at least for now this is a "tinker" install on the Steam Deck as it requires you to manually select the Compatibility tool.

The game works perfectly fine out of the box, with a caveat
Local multiplayer works without issues
It looks like the game works starting with Proton 10 (which is currently still in beta). Keep in mind that Steam will use "Proton Hotfix" as a default runtime (at least currently). "Proton Hotfix" does work fine on my Bazzite PC, so the default "Install" and "Play" work for me. However, my Steam Deck cannot launch the game this way and actually requires me to manually select "Proton 10" as a compatibility tool.
The only issue is the game takes around 30 seconds to launch, which is very odd for a game this small (not sure if the same happens on Windows). But, I don't personally consider it a problem since the game runs at full 144fps with the highest quality settings and there doesn't seem to be any input delay.

If you're happy with retro FPS to go with your retro game, then it's playable. Otherwise, save your time and money.
As others have said, FPS is low. I found that the main menu video settings get ignored, but changing the shader settings mid-race does apply to that race alone.
Don't know why the native Linux version dissapeared from the store, it's a pity. The game is salvagable but there are better options out there.
Does not work at all, closest I got was Proton 5.13-6, but immediately after Proton finishes loading it boots me back to Steam.
Does not start
Tried only default Proton (7.0)

To get controllers to work had to DISABLE steam controller defaults. Did not like steam controller.
Ran poorly and lagged a lot
Steam shows the game as running, but game window never created

Continue from (an old) save game did'nt work.
Very low FPS in 4K despite good GPU. Can't change resolution ingame, so if your monitor is 4K you'll have to change desktop resolution or forget fullscreen.

Steam shows it as running, but application does not appear.
Steam will show the game as running, but selecting Stop within Steam and killing all seemingly related processes does not fix it. Restarting Steam is required at this point.
%command% --disable-gpu
Gamepad doesn't work. You still can play with keyboard, but it isn't handy
Due to CPU render there can be some FPS problems
Don't do alt+tab in fullscreen, you can face blackscreen when you are back

Can't launch.

Used 22/01/2019 Steam Beta that let me override Linux version with Steamplay. nw.exe process is launched but nothing happens on screen.

There is a native Linux version, but the author has discontinued support for it (a pinned post in the game's forum explains why). I have the native Linux version installed, but it just brings up a "node-webkit" text window and doiesn't start the game. The author really should pull the Linux platform for the game from Steam, so we can at least try it with Proton. Ideally, Proton should allow you to override the native version and try the Windows version in cases like these.

Game natively provides a linux version. No proton testing needed here.
