The games needs alot of tweaks to even open but I couldn't get into game

The game is very buggy, tried using dgvoodoo and the game at least launched (also it's very finicky when you change anything on the config so I left the default ones) menu is buggy but is posible to start the game, videos works alright but after that the game crashes with this message " Debug Assertion Failed " Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could fix, I also tried to instal vc2010 with protontricks but didn't work either, so it's borked for me at the moment.
Update to previous post after beating the game; still works, but still frustrating once it does
Game defaults to sound source that isn't controlled by the volume rocker; only way to change it is either in game settings or before playing
Auto save sometimes doesn't want to work; if you redo a part where it didn't auto save before, it will sometimes then decide to
Got blocked two or three times for killing an enemy too early (that would unlock the next door) or a door decided not to open, but would after redoing the level
And again, is an issue with the game itself, not Proton or Linux
Download the V1.2 patch if you load into a white screen; download and add DxWnd as a non-Steam game if it doesn't launch at all - the Russian version of the game is called Metro 2, so the exe file to put into DxWnd is that (no other options need to be checked.)

Voice audio is very low compared to music and sound effects
Game has auto save feature, but only does it during cutscenes (which aren't always in the beginning of missions)
AI is pretty derpy, but not to the fault of Linux
The graphics options appear, but then the game doesn't work.
I tried with several protons, some the game doesn't even launch, I tried with different graphics settings, but the game opens correctly.
The game doesn't function, regardless of how many people talk bad about this game I wanted to be the guy to say we can finally play this.
When the game froze I could not escape until it started responding again.
Mouse easily escaped the game window when it shouldn't of.
The game randomly freezes and will not unfreeze until I alt tab out of the game and back in..
Game will no longer run after initial play through. The game will also consistantly freeze for no apparent reason.
This game doesn't work properly with older (Proton 5.0-10) or newer (Proton 7.0-1) versions of proton. It has a lot of issues to be addressed before being playable. I also cannot launch the game at all since changing the graphical settings.
Get a black screen on launch. Tweaking graphics options made it worse, now it doesn't even start. Not that it matters, nobody would willingly want to play this anyway.
