Audio loop issue seems to be resolved with Proton 10, as far as I could tell. Though my game crashes if I reload any savegame.
Crashes when loading any savegame after the game was loaded once.

Game runs and even helps preventing savescumming by crashing on reloading a savegame.

Audio samples loop continuously after first playing, without end.
Workaround for audio: turn off sound effects and music, use a youtube playlist.
Works okay, but would prefer if the in-game sound effects worked without repeating constantly.

Maybe not necessary but I adjusted down to 30hz as a quick refresh rate isn't exactly needed
Some text a little small but perfectly useable
Some sounds effects continuously repeat. The sound sometimes stops once a new sould is played. A mild annoyance but nothing more.
I've yet to try a large campaign, but will try soon and report back.
Maus-Click Geräusche gehen in einen loop. Am besten abschalten im MenĂ¼.

Audio starts normal, but if you click on some Icons, the clicking sound doesn't stop anymore
Switching from windowing to fullscreen causes the game to crash

You need some knowledge of the command line and symlinks to make it work.
It will require some changes to the executable, but works.
On Steam, user rzrx researched and realized that the "Launcher.exe" that the game runs has issues locating the game.
The workaround as follows, from the post on Steam..
My workaround is very silly... i have forced the Steam to execute the game itself rather than a launcher. If you navigate to the folder with the game you can backup the original Launcher.exe (for example "mv Launcher.exe Launcher.exe.back") and create a symlink to the game executable ("ln -s WarInTheEast2.exe Launcher.exe").
I made it run using this method by running Proton 5.0-10. No flickering and runs well.
