Game did NOT work out of the box via the PopOS's Steam version, not matter what version of Proton I tried. But it worked perfectly when using Steam via Bottles (Gaming - soda 8.0.2)

The game crashes at startup when using a recent version of Proton (both vanilla and GE versions) in a newer version (Proton 8), regardless of setting Proton specific environment variables.
But when using Proton 7 (any version), the game works without any problem.
Tested with Borderless Window in KDE Wayland.
Game works perfectly out of the box. Used Proton 7.0-5 Flatpak community build. Even achievements work correctly (which didn't in Crimzon Clover World Ignition).

Perfect!
No issues.
Game doesn't start
I used Proton 7.0-4 flatpak community build. Also tried disabling gamescope and any custom launch command to see if it works. The game seems to crash at launch no matter what.
Works out of the box including controller, game defaulted to Japanese language
Game works out of the box, it defaulted to Japanese language though. Not sure if that is the expected behaviour, however as the menues are bi-lingual English/Japanese it was easy to change. Also I did not experience any problems with 8BitDo Pro 2 controller.
Performance is stable, my 8BitDo Pro 2 was recognized out-of-the-box, online scoreboards work fine as well.
Borderless Windowed on startup does not fully cover the entire screen and needs to be manually turned off and on again in the options menu for it to work properly.
Fullscreen Mode does not suffer from this, although Fullscreen Mode has this minor issue where the screen will stay black even if you switch to it until you hit a button, after which you can see the game like normal. This unfortunately doesn't seem to work when you're watching a replay.

The Game starts with the tweak everytime but requires game restarts until the controller works by chance.
the controller can't be used most of the time. requires game restarts until it works by chance.

[For the demo] Runs way too fast out of the box, but can be easily solved with libstrangle
Game speed depends on framerate. Even though there are in-game settings for framerates, the game was stuck in 144FPS and ran way too fast. Managed to cap it to 60FPS using libstrangle (go to launch options and type "strangle 60 %command%" without the quotes).
There's a black screen when you boot the game, but don't worry, the game is running fine. The boot sequence takes like 20 seconds (didn't actually time it, but it's similar to World Ignition), after which you will hear the title screen music. At this point, just press the shot button (Z by default), and the menu should appear. The game runs normally afterwards.
