Works with no issues

I tried various Proton versions as well as suggested tipps, still it only ran well for a longer period with 4.11-13. 3.16 is working, too, but the game crashes once in a while.

Game crashes on world start
I'm able to load the game and navigate the menu, but actually trying to start a new game causes it to crash. I haven't found a way around this failure yet.
Proton-6.20-GE-1
You need to install msxml3 using protontricks in order to play the game. We The People works also fine.
Works perfectly fine.
Works fine in gerneral, but the frequent crashes make it very hard to enjoy.
The game crashes at different times. This is not safely reproduceable

Game and reported an error. "Error loading shader libraries" was using Proton Experimental.
Switch to Proton 5.13-4 and game would run. Got weird looking graphics when I zoom out all the way.

Vanilla works flawlessly out of the box.
Using nvidia driver 440 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Will post another review with "We the People" mod (formerly called "Religions and Revolutions")
Worked for me out of the box
Played with the Religion and Revolution mod online with a friend for many hours, works great. Steam overlay and Alt tabbing works great

I have used winetricks to install msxml3 which made the game much more stable. It crashes only when I use Go to Europe command further from high seas but that can be easily avoided by going to high seas tile manually and then using the button to leave the map.

Game runs normally, but not very stable. Around mid-game it starts crashing every few turns making the game unplayable.

Played for a couple of hours without any issue, after that the game would crash way too often at the end of the turn. I have tried yo disable D3d11 and using wined3d11, but to no avail.

Works great right out of the box. I hade issues with the scrolling using Nvidia drivers 390, but upgrading to 410 seems to have solved all problems

Zooming out turns the main view black, but leaves general UI visible. Trying to zoom back and forth to try and get some view back, the game becomes unresponsive.

Game plays but failure to load XML leaves most of the game with placeholder text

Starting or loading the game tends to crash. I had best luck choosing "Play Now" to get into the game, then loading my save after that game started. Once in the game, it seemed to work fine---no crashes and the only thing I noticed that was odd was that menu items didn't highlight (but could still be selected okay).

It sometimes crashes when starting the actual game. (Closing other applications may help.) No issues during gameplay so far.

Completely perfect, although not the best Civilization to ever be released.

Game opens, but crashes when trying to start a game

No issues
