Played for over and hour with no issues, if you don't mind playing racing games with a mouse and keyboard
Have Wine Development Branch installed
Steam recognize the controller but the game won't respond. It's a PS4 controller in wired mode which Steam usually handles by treating it as an Xbox controller if PS not supported, but I can't get the controller settings to open in the overlay. So I had to use the mouse and keyboard. I don't own an Xbox controller to test that so your experience might be different.
I technically didn't have to do anything to get it to play, but because I also have Wine installed to help pick up the slack of proton, I'm counting it as tinkering.

Completed 100%, worked perfectly.
The game did chug at some points but it seems that is normal -- that's Unreal Engine games for you

I played 20h. Completed game with 100% achievments. No issues
Sometimes i had low fps (18-25), typical when i drive into water, but i played on max settings and i think this is normal. Game optimization not very good.

Poor performance on Deck. Game will run on it after recent patch, but is not enjoyable experience. Often sub 20 FPS on lowest settings.
On certain tracks there is some significant slowdowns up to 5 FPS for a short while. Slowdowns are consistent and will happen only on that specific place.
More often than not you just can't control menu with controller. Set right trackpad to mouse and RightTP to mouse click. But that's games problem, not Decks. It happens on PC too.
It seems as of v3.0, game will not boot on Deck on any version of proton. Stable 9 to 5, Ex, GE. none.

Works well, just the usual shader compile stutters that happen once something new shows up.
The Game works now with the "Last Pursuit" Update intentionally or not.

After the intro a cutscene plays with a bald man which hard crashes my system
Ive tried multiple proton versions (GE-8-27,Experimental,8) and both DX11 & 12 on both Hyprland and Cinnamon(x11)

Directx 12
Frame rate slow if graphics settings maxed out
Will need graphics settings changing but there are plenty of options
- 80% quality render
- performance setting
- effects Low
- shadow quality low
- all others on medium
Gives a consistent 40FPS and runs relatively smoothly.

Textures load significantly later during the intro sequence of the races, but that's present even on high end gaming rigs and poor programming. Has a certain trash-factor to it and can be fun if you set your expectations respectively.
Game runs often below 30fps which makes it unplayable for what it wants to be, even at lowest possible settings. Very poorly optimized...
It's a great, trash version of Flatout 2 though and very enjoyable. Played it via Geforce Now instead.
MANGOHUD=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60,no_display gamemoderun %command%
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 RADV_PERFTEST=gpl gamemoderun %command%
Turn on FSR to get more fps and cap framerate to 120 fps.
Funciona correctamente, Out of the Box
DirectX 12
Mouse + left click for menus
Some car's audio is more quiet than others
Menu navigation never seemed to work
Framerate screams to a halt during intense physic sections
Physics would sometimes stop working and abruptly stop your car in it's tracks
Game can't handle even single player
Locking to 30 FPS does help and does usually keeps the stability, but either not optimized or won't run well on weaker systems
Car sounds feel a bit quieter than they should be.
Steam Deck controller wasn't picked up on the first graphical setting menu. Game restart fixed this.
Runs worse than I honestly expected. 40FPS, low settings (with shadows at medium). But I only played the intro sequence, but so far it works!

Occasionally textures were missing for short periods before suddenly appearing.
Occasional stutters when panning
Some of the video for cutscenes doesn't seem to play- I get audio and a black screen. Some cutscenes worked fine though.
