Got stuck at the login screen at first run. Screen froze after pressing the login button. Hit ALT+ENTER to go to windowed mode, then was able to login successfully because technically the login window is a popup in a different window.

Worked nice until recently, black screen after upate
%command% -FastLaunch
The game worked nicely with Proton Experimental or GE-Proton9-25, but there was an update and now it's only black screen after starting :(

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 -FastLaunch
SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 fixed the mapping for my Xbox One Wireless controller
After fixing my XBox One Wireless Controller with launch parameters everything worked perfectly

Black screen after login
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch
I was able to connect to the microsoft account but then the game crashed and since then I've been unable to launch the game. Either Cachy OS crashes or I get a black screen when starting the game.

I have to follow this post on Reddit to make my Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant work. Thrustmaster TCA sidestick and throttle quadrant (with T.Flight rudder pedals connected) work out of the box. I haven't got HDR to work on MSFS using Gamescope.
On load, there's a black space gap on the topmost screen. Simply Alt + Enter
twice to make it disappear.

Worked out of the box. Many addons work but require use of Protontricks if they have an installer. See concluding notes below.
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 -FastLaunch
Used Protontricks to install 3rd party software.
Go to flightsimonlinux.com to see some useful notes on getting VATSIM and other products running. In my tests, Volanta does not work no matter how much I tinkered with it. vPilot does not work so you have to use the Swift client which is janky but the website I listed walks you through it quite well. PMDG products work across the board. Fenix products do not work since it relies on an externally ran application.
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 %command% -FastLaunch
Games works excellent. Only issue was the Microsoft account login screen. It would not type. I was able to login by simultaniously clicking the mouse button as I entered each letter. Fortunately this only needs to be done once, as it saves the login.
I have Logitech/Saitek rudder pedals. To get them to show up I had to add the additional to the command SDL_LINUX_JOYSTICK_CLASSIC=1 once done, they work well

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch
Framerates noticeably lower, but still very playable

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 -r 165 -f --mangoapp --adaptive-sync --hdr-enabled -- gamemoderun %command% -FastLaunch
Need to go to windowed and then back to full screen with Alt+Enter twice before the mouse works. Otherwise completely flawless with Proton Experimental.

%command% -FastLaunch
Buttons can't be pressed until one time window mode and back (alt + enter)
With Wayland + NVIDIA I couldn't start the game before, I had to switch to X11. But now with the new Proton Experimental from 2024-12-09 or GE-Proton9-21 it works nearly flawlessly on Wayland.

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch
Need to reenable fullscreen with "alt" + "enter".
Sometimes the game just wont start, or need a lot of time for the loading screen
Works out of the box

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command% -FastLaunch
Crackling fixed with the Pulse Audio latency variable.
Mouse pointer is not accurate, have to cycle between fullscreen to windowed then fullscreen again to have it working properly.
Game does not launch under Wayland. I'm on Fedora and I had to install an X11 session seperately to have the game working - it is a reported issue on Github.
Thrustmaster T.16000M flight stick and throttle detected corretly and working.

Mouse input does not register where i click, but slightly somwhere else. It makes it hard to click things ingame. a non-issue for me since I play with controller
I skipped the ~10h download stage by copying over the game files from another install ;) I highly recommend doing that as well, it saved me so much time.
Need to toggle between windowed and fullscreen to get proper fullscreen

gamemoderun %command% -FastLaunch
Sometimes no mouse cursor in fullscreen
Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant detected as Xbox gamepad. Problem solved (https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/158dqmi/honeycomb_bravo_in_linux/)
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command% -FastLaunch

PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command% -FastLaunch
Mild screen tearing when rapidly turning the camera, or when rapidly moving the pre-flight world map.
Minor input issues when the game first boots. Mouse inputs are twitchy and not aligned with cursor. Alt-tab out and reopen and it fixes itself.
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro needed some minor remapping to make the throttle work correctly
I have had occasional crashes, but not significantly worse than on Windows.
The game works about as well on my decade-old hardware as you can possibly expect. ~20 FPS on the ground at busy airports like LAX or JFK, ~30 FPS at generic airports in cities without photogrammetry.
I used NVIDIA GeForce Experience to dial in the best visuals-for-performance settings I could get, then copied those settings over to my Linux install. The game has some instability issues and some minor graphical bugs, but those same issues existed for me on Windows as well.
Your mileage may vary, but MSFS is my main PC game and works about as well on Linux after tinkering as it does on Windows natively.
Thanks for the advice further down! You need to switch to X11 to work, than it's just like normal play.
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command% -FastLaunch

Works great on bazzite, just need to switch to KDE X11 as it is not working on wayland now
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command% -FastLaunch
Works great on bazzite, just need to switch to KDE X11 as it is not working on wayland now. Parameters to use DXVK helps to run it with vulkan and not with opengl to get better performance.

Game launched before, now not anymore
Until recently it worked, now I get an wine error message when it's in the loading screen after the updater.

Runs as good as on Windows
FBW a320, Navigraph Hub, Simlink, etc. can be installed through protontricks. Unfortunately the Fenix aircrafts don't seem to work.
Dead on NVIDIA > 555 on wayland

Works out of the box

Game gets past the login screen and starts loading, but freezes near the end.

It does sometimes allow me to play, as sometimes it gets to the main menu and will work as expected. I have downloaded all files the game wants to download.

Works just like on Windows

Using protontricks for mods
It works fine, only issue is I cannot get Fenix A320 to work. The rest of the mods all work.
HOTAS X52 got detected perfectly :) Performance is the same as in windows. No crashes so far, really happy
PROTON_LOG=1 %command -FastLaunch

Works out of the box. Long downloads but yeah
Clicking input boxes in the UI is finicky with a mouse but works perfectly with gamepad
No issues found

Mostly anything works fine out of the box, even installing addins via protontricks works very well.
-FastLaunch
Installed addons like Swift for Vatsim, Navigraph Simlink etc.
DirectX12 does not work at the moment, it's not showing UI elements when enabled. Otherwise on DX11 it works flawless.
Honeycomb Bravo was detected as Xbox controller and needed some manual tweaking to get it to work. See here for a solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/158dqmi/honeycomb_bravo_in_linux/

Used the new wayland support via the registry entry because xwayland kept crashing
Some flickering the first time I've played
Worked well with Wayland but crashed with XWayland
game booted for about a second and then immedietly crashed tried multiple versions of proton and multiple launch options
gamemoderun %command% PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 -FastLaunch

Worked very well. Frame rate was great, Audio works. My joystick worked without any tinkering.
PROTON_LOG=1 %command -FastLaunch
Was able to fly on VATSIM but the usual expectations of aircraft flying in the runway etc but I could see everyone and communicate
The new updates to proton (v9) fixed the real weather which worked as expected. The overall experience was good.

LOVE IT! Thrustmaster HOTAS works well OOTB as well!

Works great as long as you have an SSD big enough to install the base game and downloaded content. On Windows I can install the base game on my boot drive but the install the updates/DLC to a second drive. On linux it has to be on the same drive as far as I can tell. Download speeds when installing the DLCs were much faster than on Windows (200+ mb more). No other issues, I actually get about 10-15 more FPS.

Multiplayer worked nicely. Some lag issues was seen, but that's something you see always in MSFS
Tinkerin report because i don't want to watch those annoying intros and used launch parameter to skip it.
Used Proton 8.0-5 Install was easy (only hard part was when i didn't remember my Xbox password :D). Normal MSFS install. Install download speed in windows was 100-120Mb/s. Now it was 280 - 320Mb/s all the time. Game started fine, but when hitting "FLY" and game start to load, it crashed about 50-60%.
Changed to Proton 9.0-1 Game starts normally and now it loads to flight and game works nicely with Ultra settings and i was surprised that controllers were found instantly when connected and worked great (Saitek X55).
Couple of flights done. No issues after changed to Proton 9.0-1. Happy pilot :)

Clicking on menu items didn't work until I cycled Alt+Enter a couple of times.

Works better on Linux than Windows on my machine
It worked right out of the box for me when I switched to Linux Mint, I had frequent crashes when I tried playing on Windows 10
