So like the others reporting in this game the sound is borked out of the box but I was able to download the file soft_oal.dll and place in the game directory and rename it as OpenAL32.dll. The games sound worked fine after that.
The link from the first person explaining this a year ago is dead and I just got the file from a DLL site like the noob that I am.
While playing I did experience a single crash while playing a card match but even in windows that happens occasionally so hard to fault proton for that.
Sound is borked from the start. Works totally fine with tinkering.
Had one crash happen. This happens in windows too so I personally think proton is doing fine here. At worst you lose the current match you're in and have to restart the fight at the hub you started the match at.
Game works fine but with no audio
No audio with default steam play
No audio at all at first. After replacing OpenAl32.dll, everything works great.
Steps to replace OpenAL32.dll (courtesy of user Kal-Eel from their Megaton Rainfall review):
download this file from Openal: https://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal-binaries/openal-soft-1.19.1-bin.zip
From that file extract the file soft_oal.dll from /bin/Win32 of the downloaded archive.
copy the file to your ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Urban Cards/ folder.
rename OpenAL32.dll to OpenAL32.bak
Rename soft_oal.dll to OpenAL32.dll
Start game and enjoy full audio
