I was concerned about so many reviews that highlighted errors with fullscreen or lag, but in my case, it ran without any problems. I was unable to get it to work with the native Steam client and had to resort to Flatpak, unfortunately. Tried on Arch, Devuan and Ubuntu with the same unsatisfying result. Didn't try online co-op yet, but it works correctly when playing locally.

Use Legacy Runtime.
Grass only renders when the character is near it.
Fullscreen mode, contrary to other reports, does not seem to affect the game performance, but it is not truly fullscreen.
Changing the window or video settings causes the mouse to stop working; you can click, but you can't use it to look around. This is fixed by reopening the game.
There are certain FPS drops; it is not stable, but it's not too annoying
The game did not start using more recent versions of Proton, so I am likely losing some performance as a result. I am fully aware of the abysmal performance difference between DS2 and SOTFS version, even on Windows, so while I have tested this one, I have no doubt that the result would be waaay better in SOTFS. Play that one instead if you can. In any case, to my surprise, the overall experience is that it is perfectly playable. I did not try playing with a controller. Not very proud to be part of the tiny percentage of players who have gotten used to the esoteric default mouse and keyboard controls.
Unable to run regardless of the Proton version used or custom config.
Same issue as Dunnedora and Cere. The game won't start regardless of the Proton version (from 4 to Experimental), launch parameters, or mods. It's not like the latter matters; DSFix always lowered my fps more than playing vanilla, plus it gave me a very nice input lag as a bonus.
Native working perfectly.
I never managed to get it running on Debian 11; updating to Bookworm fixed the issue. The 'crashfix' version is playable on 11, but the devs haven't updated it in years!
It's also perfectly playable with Proton, yes, but when you reach the end, the fight at the Canadian border, the game puts you in an infinite loop where it's impossible to win: You cross the border, the victory credits are shown and everything, but the game crashes and you constantly return to the beginning of the level, so while it is playable, it cannot be completed.
It only ran after deleting libgcc_s.so.1
Better performance and stability than on Windows. Works correctly after removing libgcc_s.so.1. Impossible to run it without removing that first.
Minor annoying issues. Good performance but inferior to Windows. Impossible to get it to detect the DLC.

The cursor looks like a low-quality jpg.
Using fullscreen worsens performance, being inferior to Windows in comparison, but still playable.
The "PRESS START" screen insanely drops the FPS... for some reason. The rest of the game runs fine.
Does not recognize the ownership of the DLC.
The game, aside from strange artifacts with the cursor and generally worse performance compared to Windows, is playable. I didn't bother to keep testing it since it can't recognize my DLC and forces me to use the free version, which takes away all the fun in my opinion. If you don't own the DLC, it might be enjoyable. P.S: All these problems occurred on my main PC as well.
Same performance as Windows. Idle mechanics, even when closing the game, work perfectly here too. No glitches or weird issues.
Used Proton Experimental.
