-preload -dev
Did experience a crash by changing settings from fullscreen to windowed (from in-game), not had issues since.
Awesome support from EAC. No issues playing online. (both with friends and solo)
Let shaders compile before play. Otherwise you will experience stutters/freezes.
-preload -dev +fps_max 120 +cl_showpos 1 -forcenovsync -dev +cl_ragdoll_collide 0 -w 1920 -h 1080
Had an issue with changing to 16:10 aspect ratio, had to add -w and -h flags to fix it (would just black screen on startup)
Stuttering will occur without either allowing your shaders to compile, or using the pre-compiled ones @ https://github.com/bcook254/apex-legends-cache
No issues, awesome EAC support for Linux.
I'd recommend using GE (Glorious Eggrolls) fork of Proton for the added performance, with or without tinkering, the game runs fine. Just make sure to let your shaders compile or use the available ones from @ https://github.com/bcook254/apex-legends-cache
Multiplayer works with no hiccups. <3
No issues with this game whatsoever, just install and play.
The game can be fully played and experienced as if it were native. I found no issues in my ~50 hours of playing this title under linux.
EasyAntiCheat will not allow you to play on EAC protected servers (which is the majority of them)
EasyAntiCheat prevents online play.
Hosting a local Rust server, with EasyAntiCheat disabled, game runs flawlessly.
Although servers without EasyAntiCheat enabled do work without any problems, considering Rust is a massively multiplayer game; this basically means you'll be locked out from most, if not all servers.
I really do hope the Facepunch Team decide to enable EAC support for Linux. This game would be huge not just for us, but Steam Deck too.
Despite Garry's promises of supporting Steam Deck (and therefore Linux) 'on launch or shortly after' it has been months. No EAC Support yet.
This is related to i3. Fullscreened applications will always try to take priority.
EasyAntiCheat will report a 'Authentication Timed Out' error. This is because the developer has not enabled (Linux EAC Support) yet.
I hosted a small server just to test out the games performance. This worked absolutely fine other than the fact that hosting a rust server is already quite taxing on any hardware.
TLDR: If you're looking to play Rust like a normal person. It is still not there yet: No EAC support, but otherwise, game runs excellent! If you're not aware, Garry, the owner of Facepunch provided a Tweet to say that EAC support for the Steam Deck will be 'on launch or shortly after' it has been almost a year and his claims are yet to be proven. Performance is great- marginally better than Windows on the same hardware. I was able to see a 8-15fps increase as opposed to the Windows counterparts. This is incredible. There was also significantly less 'strange framedrops' when entering monuments. Which was a huge surprise.
After all this, if you still want to play Rust under Linux, there is a server called 'Deadlock' which has EAC disabled and allows Linux gamers. Community was quite nice there too. @ rust.deadlock.com
