If you try to avoid it with other Proton builds / changing launch options manually it non reproducible starts the launcher sometimes (sometimes not, even if there was no change). Launching the game leads to other error messages and the game crashing

When running, I was presented with this error message... "Error occurred during load of settings file. Advanced error information: There is an error in XML document (16, 1)."
Afterwards, you get the game launcher.
Skipping registration exits the game
Re-Launch the game, and click on Play
The game will launch

Input, video and audio works. The game is playable.
