When I launch career mode the game freezes on an old school color bar screen. Like what you would see on a television when the broadcast was shut off. The quick races and everything else seems to work fine though.

I initially tried it with 8.0-3 but it froze at the player configuration screen. I then tried Experimental and it's been running perfectly for the 24 hours play I've done.

Milestone don't support Ride 3 anymore, but were kind enough to suggest changing the environment variable: OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000
OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000 %command%
The game doesn't start if the environment variable isn't added to the Launcher line: OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000 %command%

Ride 3 fails to start - bombs after Unreal 3 logo shows
I've tried forcing Proton Experimental, and the other available verions namely 7.0, 6.3 and 5.13, with no luck.
I see the Red Square from Milestone, then the Unreal Logo, and then it bombs and I'm back at the Steam Library.

Milestone would not acknowledge my acceptance of their EULA.
Tried multiple versions of Proton. Experimental was the only one to work after many failed attempts.
All Settings on High. Good Performance
Game runs flawlessly on Proton Experimental

I tried initially with Proton 5.0-9 it didn't start, then I gave a try to 5.11-GE-3-MF and it ran very smooth, no problem what so ever.
Hopefully these steps are a bit more helpful if you don't really understand WINEPREFIX.
Try to run the game, it'll give the failure. You need this for the path to be created for the wineprefix. Kill it in System Monitor
Download https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install. Unzip it and openm the folder in Terminal. Then run this command (altering for where the game's installed for you:
WINEPREFIX="/mnt/Games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/759740/pfx" ./mf-install.sh
Try running the game again. Boom, for me, it's better than it is on the PS4, and one less reason to use the PS4...
Fatal error

The game won't start without fixes. I had the "Fatal Error" message too and managed to get the game starting. After installing Proton-4.21-GE1, applying the workaround mentioned in the comments below and using mf-install from z0z0z the game finally started and runs like native. But I'm not able to get the Steam overlay up and the fps counter is missing.
Just a "Fatal Error" dialog
"Fatal error" at launch.

Tried to simply start. Tried with different Proton Versions. Tried the suggested Workaround in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2052
