On winetricks, I had to install IE8 in order to get the games A.N.N and all the hacks running.
If you dont use winetricks to install IE8 it probably will not work also it is highly recommended to use proton 5.0.10 atleast that is what worked for me.
to conclude it, you do need to tinker alot it goes from installing IE8 without IE8 the game will not work!
I installed ie8 (internet explorer 8) and switched to an older versions as the previous comments said, but then reverified files. now it works, so im not quite sure what exactly was required. There are still minor stutters and you need to open A.N.N and click the home button once to fix the browser, but everything else seems to work.
Not sure if related but my audio server crashed when loading this game. reboot fixed it and it never happened again...
need to go home on the browser to make notes or and pages load. works otherwise.

Installed ie8 as another user suggested via protontricks and the in game web browser started working.
The in game web browser A.N.N does not work by default.
You have to switch to older proton and it works flawlessly!

Does not work without gecko. Gecko can be installed by using protontricks or winetricks and installing ie8
The A.N.N is needed to be playable, the game is effectively softlocked after starting a new game as it does not work.

Some very rare FPS drops not frequent enough to be a bother.
The In-Game web browser and the Killer/Minigames notes didn't work until switching to Proton 5.0-10.

In the tutorial the vidoe/stream isnt playing, the webbrowser is unusable.
Scince the webbrowser is not usable the game is unplayable.
Would not recommend buying until fixed.

You can't use the ANN browser ingame.
Since the Browser doesn't work, it renderes the game broken and unplayable since you can't progress.
Really, unplayable, the web browser (where you stay on for a big part of the game) just doesn't load stuff, you can't advance

It is very playable just some quirks that are sometimes frustrating. Overall it works well but not the best.
The Computer in the Game randomly shuts down (happened to me three times) without me clicking on the shutdown button.
The Game sometimes begins to Lagg really badly and then after a while it stops (~5 seconds Lagg).
