Combination of the instruction from Yokotarotaro and Leonius
- Installed the Title
- Downloaded Protontricks from Discover
- Select Virtua Tennis 4 within protontricks
- Install the gfw and physx dll/windows components using protontricks
- Run winecfg via protontricks
- Under libraries add the library gameux (if its not already there)
- Edit - Disable the gameux library
- Paste the xlive DLL from ( https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2248-virtua-tennis-4-xliveless/ ) into the installation folder of the game
- Launch the game via steam into the config tool
- Set preferred resolution and 2.0 shader setting
- Make sure that at least player 1 has xbox 360 set as their controller and vibration enabled (Set the other players to controller if you want to be able to play multiplayer)
- Launch the game (from here forwards you should be able to directly boot into the game and avoid the config tool)
may have to use the touch screen to navigate the config window to make sure controller support is enabled
default control is set to keyboard unless you switch it to controller in the config window before launch
protontricks (install gfw + physx) winecfg (disable gameux library) custom xlive dll to disable games for windows live. bit of faff but it does work in the end

Hello Yokotarotaro, can you please explain the steps to run Virtua Tennis 4 on Steamdeck, please I tried it for weeks now, no success.
Run winecfg inside the prefix made by Proton Create an override for gameux and set it to disable. Install Physx from protontricks. Replace xlive.dll in the main folder of the game with the one from PCGamingWiki : https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2248-virtua-tennis-4-xliveless/
You have to tinker to make this game works.

Issue appears to be with GFW, have tried installing this within ProtonTricks and while this appears to install, the error above is shown. If GFW is not installed then the game will not start at all nor show any error messages.
