Played the Amazon Games version of this game using Heroic Games Launcher and completed the game without any issue using the newest Steam Proton 9.0-2.
Was able to finish the game without issues
It just worked.
Alt-tab sometimes worked, sometimes required me to go to a console and kill it.
Sometimes game would not launch. I would have to kill it and try again. One time I even had to reboot. I still made it through the whole game, though. Aside from that and the alt-tab issue, the game was stable.
Steam gives you an option on each start to either run the game by itself or by a developer-provided config tool (mistakenly referred to as a Controller Layout/Configuration Tool for some reason; ignore this and run anyway). You must run this tool the first time on Deck.
Refresh Rate = 40hz, TDP Limit = 5W, GPU Limit = 600. No impact on performance.
Game runs perfectly on Deck after you run the developer's configuration tool, which Steam provides as an option on each run (see my config note for further details). As the first Deck report says, you need to either de-select the "Black Bars" option or select the option to run in Windowed Mode. If you de-select "run in windowed mode" and the "black bar" option, and switch to DirectDraw 5, the black bars move to the bottom, making it easier to view the screen if you're like me and like to rest the Deck on one's belly or pillow in bed.
Screen was "oversized" so it cut off the left and botton of the screen. Turning off "Black Bars on Widescreen monitors" or running it in Windowed mode (still is effectively fullscreen) fixed this.
Works very well.
Occasionally the mouse would not move to some sections of the screen. Swinging the mouse back and forth from left edge to right edge and/or top edge to bottom edge would fix it.
Except for occasional mouse problems, the game works fine.
Ran absolutely perfectly start to finish
Had to run the config program once before playing the game. Would not start without doing that first, but the config ran fine, and the game also ran perfectly after that.
On Proton 4.11-8 the game sometimes doesn't launch but hang in the background. Just kill Whispers.exe and retry. Alternatively, GloriousEggroll's 4.19-GE-1 worked consistently for me.
Completed it by now. When it launches, it's flawless, even streamed to an Ubuntu 18.04.3 HTPC via Remote Play.
