worked right OoB
Able to just hop into the game after downloading and play with no problems

Works great out of the box, but if you want digtube you need the movie player. https://github.com/HoodedDeath/mf-fix
Without tinkering you won't have digtube.

works
runs like on windows with the same issues
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
A little laggy, but I remember it was not great on Windows either
Didn't end up playing it long and don't plan to since I played it a few years ago and it turns out I'm still burnt out on it, but I did end up trying it for about 30 minutes on Proton and it worked good enough, it was a little laggy but I remember the performance being sub par on Windows too, along with general jankiness
On low graphics settings runs at a pretty stable 60fps, slight stutters but nothing unplayable. Very enjoyable on Steam Deck.
Certain text is on the small side, but not unreadable.
Slight stutters, from my experience mostly when using vehicles.
Ubuntu 20.04 - 32GB RAM - Installed on SSD - PlayStation 4 Dual Shock Controller... Everything worked flawlessly!

Ran part of the tutorial after not having played for quite a while (last time on Win). Didn't notice any diff. in perf. compared to Win.
as others have said "You only need media foundations if you want to see a video on how an item works" - I've tried installing media foundations (and got rid of the warning) but so far didn't get videos to work (it seems that there's a "coming soon" notice on all the items I've tried). I'll probably not put any more time into getting videos to work, and since the bit of tinkering I did made no real difference (and isn't really necessary) , I'll post this as a standard report.
You only need media foundations if you want to see a video on how an item works, you can just ignore the warnings and hit escape and it works without this. This game needs optimization on windows but for Linux it runs just as well as it does on its intended platform, ie; sometimes sluggish framerate and long screen/newarea loading times.

I had to install mf-install (Media Foundation workaround for Wine). To install this without having to install Wine, use the following syntax:
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/451340/pfx" PROTON="/$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.11" ./mf-install.sh -proton
The game doesn't perform very well, even on low graphics. But this seems normal. :-(
Crashed on me one time during the tutorial.

Microsoft Media Foundation Issue - Download zip from: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install, extract zip file, run: 'WINEPREFIX="/home//.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/451340/pfx" ./mf-install.sh' from extracted folder

Works out of the box with the exception of "Dig Tube" which throws an error "Requires Microsoft Media Foundation to be installed"
Had a quick run through the tutorial and FPS is an average of around 45FPS

A little bit laggy, the grapics were not that good. But runs smoothly.

It didn't work with the default nivida drivers , but once i updated them to the newest version it started and run

Game loads but yields 2-5fps. Also can't tab out of the game.

DigTube doesn't currently work. Required Microsoft Media Foundation, since this is a 64 bit game it is not supported currently.
Game loads, however black screen, issues

Runs smoothly, no errors
