If you're hardcore enough for this game, you're hardcore enough to fix whatever's wrong with it.
On the latest version of Proton, while selecting certain menus I noticed a constant flickering of the screen. I had to switch to Proton version 4.11 to stop this, but it worked perfectly afterwards.
If you run a tiling window manager you need a small fix, but otherwise the game should run fine.
To get the game to work properly with a tiling window manager like i3wm do the following:
cd ~/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/321040/pfx. env WINEPREFIX=$PWD winecfg Graphics -> Emulate Virtual desktop
i3wm made the game unplayable out of the box due to the mouse not "lining up" with the graphics. This can be fixed by running in virtual desktop of wine.
