An amazing racing title from the Xbox 360 and PS3 era is now portable. Sweet dreams, Black Rock Studio.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2095797546 - Installed this on Windows and copied files to the Deck (installing via Wine would break letter case).
Added Y in-game settings to the back grip for view switch
Sometimes, on rare occasions, it might crackle while loading
Requires manually remapping buttons in-game, don't switch to Steam or other menus, might not register Deck's controller
Online is disabled due to server shutdown, only LAN
Used the Decky Plugin to boost this masterpiece to 60 FPS. Use Proton GE and the WOW64 toggle with FIFO Vsync for it to work.

Keyboard required in certain menus, including using "Tab" to switch rows
External factor, servers have been shut down for years now.
works as is
Still looks and feels amazing to play, even 15 years after it was released.
I have to set graphical settings to "low" to avoid stattering and graphical glitches

The game itself is locked at 30fps, but its not noticieable on the Deck. The game its beautiful. Its almost like it was made for the Deck.
Its a "must play" on the Steam deck, without any doubt
On some maps, occasional, minor microstuttering is present. It"s barely noticable without the frametime graph.

I just installed it and played. Didn't choose proton or anything. It works just perfect for me from the box without any extra settings. It's weird that it tagged as "Unsupported".
No issues, runs at a solid 30 FPS with normal battery usage. Did not encounter any issues in terms of FPS lowage.
Framerate Limit: 30 Watts: 6
Only real tinkering was changing to Proton Experimental, that made the graphical artifacts disappear.

Interface shows keyboard prompts only, which is more annoying than usual in this game since the menu navigation isn't always intuitive. Here's the legend for reference:
Enter = A button
ESC = B button
Space = X button
Tab = Y button
I didn't notice any graphical errors on default 7.0-6 Proton, but might as well use Experimental since it's currently reported as more compatible.
Save corruption glitch (has been happening since the pc release in 2015)
THE GAME HAS A SAVE CORRUPTION GLITCH AT THE EPISODE 6 ! To avoid it you must complete this episode in 1 session, other than that the game is a blast and i would recommend anyone interested in arcade racing game to give it a chance

Medium artifacts, randomly. Sometimes vertical lines. Maybe a bit less after switching to "Very High" quality in the options.
Split screen seems to work fine with two USB controllers (Logitech F310). Didn't try LAN multiplayer.
Absolute blast (literally), enjoyed it very much.
Translucent grid pattern, large background pixelation artifacts
The graphical glitches (translucent grid, large background artifacts) were disappointing to see, but they don't affect gameplay at all. Multi-player servers are offline so you only get the single player campaign. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that made me really disappointed that the sequel was canceled.
Enjoyable single-player, despite pervasive graphics glitch. Multiplayer servers are offline.
Lock framerate to 30FPS, matching in-game performance.
The game features an unusual semi-transparent grid pattern over the top of the gameplay & menus. This pattern is sometimes invisible, and is highly apparent at other times. The size of the grid pattern changes dending on the graphic quality setting. Changing Proton versions seems to have no impact. This grid pattern does not interfere with gameplay, but is noticable from time to time.
Despite having a pervasive graphics glitch in the form of a semi-transparent grid pattern, Split Second has no performance issues. The game is completely playable, requires no tinkering, and is very fun on Steam Deck.
All control prompts use keyboard icons, but are automatically mapped to the logically correct buttons on the Steam Deck.
Grid-like artifacts in the background of gameplay and main menu
Plays like a dream on the Deck - if only the grid-like artifacts during gameplay could be ironed out. It would be perfect. As-is, though, perfectly playable.
Limited to 30FPS as the game is locked at 30FPS anyway
I've never got the LAN multiplayer to work - it would be great if you could play in a lobby on 2 steam decks on the same network.
Game runs at 30fps stock, so limited fps to 30 in deck setting for more battery life.
Game is locked at 30fps out of the box and by design. Onscreen controls are displayed as keyboard, but will work with the recommended control scheme. No online play since servers were shutdown years ago.
A transluscent square grid overlay-like artefact is always present. Changing quality from High to Very High makes the tiles of the grid smaller. Changing resolution in-game screws up brightness.
The game has crashed my Deck completely once.
The game is playable with caveats.
It crashes immediately with recent Proton versions (7.0-2, GE-Proton7-17). As previously reported, Proton 5.0-10 makes the game run.
It has controller support but prompts are seemingly for a DirectInput controller (button 1 = A, button 2 = B, etc) during tutorial. In menus, only keyboard prompts are displayed.
The framerate is locked to 30fps and there are some hiccups, mostly during power plays.
Meh experience, visible artifact, pc port locked to 30 fps, only keyboard prompt, it's playable but not great
6w TDP and 600 gpu MHZ
visible vertical black line artifact during menu and gameplay
Game only show keyboard prompt
Will simply refuse to start with default proton, game seems really nitpicky when it comes to choosing a proton version
