Works on Proton 8.0-5 I did not have to make any setting changes, works out of the box. Sometimes the game menu loads to a black screen after the title screens. Press Esc to skip these screens it usually works.

Tried each of offiial proton, hotfix and GE

Ubisoft should be ashamed for requiring WIFI connection and Ubisoft Connect log in every time this singleplayer game loads. It's a shame.
You MUST sign into Ubisoft Connect and have an account- THEN must enter your CD KEY (this is in Steam settings under manage CD Keys- copy and paste when prompted for it once logged into Ubisoft Connect - you only need to do this one time. Once this info is saved it'll auto load this info- however you must be ONLINE and connected to WIFI for Ubisoft Connect to log in and do what I assume is a DRM check each time you load the game.
The game appears to ONLY support WASD keyboard and mouse setup- if you have a controller mapping that does not simulate keyboard and mouse- the game won't detect a keyboard and mouse, and thus NOT LOAD at all. There is a great community layout with most functions mapped to steam deck controls however.
I've tried a LOT of the recent Proton versions with this game- no idea why ONLY PROTON HOTFIX as of 02/27/2024 seems to work (I've yet to try older pre Proton 8 versions) Proton Hotfix is at the bottom of the list and as of this writing works- and ONLY with keyboard / mouse mapped to the steam controls, native resolution set in properties, and only if you successfully log into Ubisoft Connect. Do all this- and this game will reliably start every time and you can pick up and continue your game. I love the original Flashback and this was a strange HD remake not a simple remaster that changed significant aspects of the original game and layout - but keeps enough to feel similar. From a preservation standpoint I wanted to have it and get it working. But is it worth the effort? For many, probably not. I got it on sale for $2.50 and it took some time to get this working and some dumb luck. Ubisoft- FIX THIS! For the average user- Get the 25th anniversary version of the OG game on Steam - it's deck supported and a great game- this one is different but from what I've played- not better.
Cannot be played. Will crash before any possible interactions.

No Display after initial Videos
There was an error with Uplay during install. Now game starts plays the Ubisoft logo/video and then crash to desktop.
Wineserver still running and still shows as running in Steam but no display/game window is present.

After game crashes from initial startup, go into Ubisoft Connect settings and disable all in-game notifications. Game starts and it is playable once intro videos play through. Sometimes will crash on startup after "Powered by Unreal Engine" especially if a key is pressed to interrupt intro videos. Sometimes locks up / freezes transitioning to the start screen from the intro videos. Sometimes freezes / locks up in game. I have not tried to disable intro videos or know if it is possible.
Crashes on startup. Locks up / freezes on transition from intro videos to game. Locks up / freezes in game.
Will run with Proton 6.3-7 (not consistently). Tried Proton Experimental and Proton GE 6.18 GE 2 and crashes after intro videos.

Installs but crash to desktop after initial logs
not playable

Show the intro viddeos and then crashes
First you will have to log into uplay (be sure to mark the remember me checkbox) and reddeem the game code if it doesn't appear in your library. After that close everything and run the game from steam again. It will start, show some intro videos and then crash.

Uplay works and logs in, a number of game splash screens are displayed. Game quits. You need to exit Uplay.

Doesn't go past the intro video

Stuck after uplay update. Window appear (probably uplay launcher) but nothing can be seen, there is no text or texture on it.
