You need to run it on fairly low settings to run at 60fps, fps still drops in areas with a lot going on
They finally fixed the triggers not registering unless you mapped it to left and right mouse button.

World view distance set to 5km, frames locked to 30fps
Game supports gamepads but by default controller is set to disabled. Needs to be manually changed.
Main menu background video maxes out CPU, doesn't seem to be any setting to turn it off.
Game seems really heavy, especially on CPU. Other than that, game launches and plays without problems.

Once you get the controlls figured out this game is perfect for steam deck! runs quite well and the fans barely even have to spin up.
Made Custom radial menus for further control in menus. Controller support did not work as trigger is not detected for using tools/weapons, so I had to emulate KB/M. My layout is available in steam input, just look for the steamdeck one by "jeremywp123"
Triggers do not work, this is known space engineers bug.
Occasionally crashes when building world, crashed once during gameplay.
I would reccomend starting with my controller layout and custimizing to your liking. Look for the one by "Jeremywp123"

Used GE Proton 8-6 Great Experience. It was like playing on Xbox. No glitches, graphics issues, etc 40fps without issue in space.

Game won't launch past the splash screen. On 7.0 and I assume below it doesnt even get past "starting launch"
Without any adjustments the cpu load according to ingame logging exceeds 100% (reducing sim speed) even on new games.

On low screen refresh rates shadows behave really weird (duplicating in two directions, repeating every second).
Game won't recognize the builtin controller.
Due to overall bad optimization sim-speed drops pretty quickly. Runs as bad as on my i5-3250.
Since the PS5 release patch sometimes just crashes - even in main menu doing nothing.
Locking fps to 30, turn off gras, set cpu to 4 threads (powertools), deactivate adaptive simulation and not having more than a handful of mid-size grids keeps the game mostly playable - depending on your expectations maybe even enjoyable.
Reduced graphical settings to consistently reach 40fps + improve battery life, but the game is more limited by the CPU so scenes get too complex easily. Grass seems to render fine without crashes.
Mouse hitted an edge a few times. The controller needs to be enabled manually in settings once.
It seems game doesn't want to be even installed on Deck with Valve Oficial Proton. Only GE. Game becomes unplayable after 5min in game.
30 FPS
After about 5-10min games slows down significantly. It doesn't loose FPS, just slows down for no reason.
Added a back button for the J key for helmet as it wasn't binded.
Text is quite small.
After the inital campaing mission, the one in which you go to an escape pod, and land on the planet I'm unable to continue as it crashes every time.
It appears you are no longer able to even install SE on deck. Game is strictly restricted to Windows.
Need other controls

Used L4/R4 for rotation char (Q/E) and L5/R5 for aiming and shooting (Left/Right Mousebutton)
You have to enable the gamepad ingame with the touchscreen in the controls menu, otherwise some simple tinkering and it's really playable also, turn gras down, amd error

Tried verifying the files, multiple different versions of proton and deleting the proton prefix all to no success.
Runs pretty much perfectly on Steam Deck out of the box. As others have mentioned, intro video does not play.
Locked 30 FPS
I've turned off grass as others reported crashes. Ingame scripting also works out of the box, no protontricks needed.
Grass causes the game to crash when on planets, you need to lower grass density to 0 in graphics settings
There is a broken intro video (black screen) after the Space Engineers splash screen, pressing any button skips past it and to the main menu
Note that for some mods to work (WeaponCore among them) it'll be necessary to use winetricks/protontricks to install dotnet48 - and potentially also xact
