Can't recommend with Proton
Crashes very frequently with latest Proton. Tried switching to older versions and was able to get the game running stably with 6.3-8 but with terrible framerates (felt like ~10-15 fps).
Your options are playing with extremely frequent crashes with the latest Proton or nearly unplayable framerates with 6.3-8. The crashes feel like they are linked to game uptime - so if you deploy towers perfectly and play with the game sped up you could potentially burn through each wave fast enough to get to the next one and do a Save & Exit. Rinse and repeat if you'd like at that point but it gets really annoying.
Works pretty well, except for the music.
Sounds play, but music does not.
Works perfectly on Proton 4.11, but not on 5.0.9.
If you get an error when starting the game, switch to Proton 4.11. Right click -> Properties -> General -> Check "Force the use of specific Steam Play compatibillity tool" and choose version 4.11.
