I saw the other steam version report here so I tried ge proton from the start and had no issues playing The default controlls seem odd but I used a wireless keyboard and trackpad so ymmv

in gaming mode, the steam version normally fails to launch.
to get it to work I installed itch.io through a lutris script (win version when given the choice), added that as a steam shortcut by right clicking it in lutris, launched itch through steam, installed the itch build and launched it from there
didn't test any other methods
