This is stupid, and I have no idea why it works, but it worked: Delete the compatdata folder, launch once under Proton 4.11-13. You'll get a blank screen for a minute or two, force quit the game. Then remove the version override (or pin at 7.0-4) and you'll have non-blank screens and menus. This should work for all games in the series.

Need to force the game to run on proton experimental. I tried all other proton launch options and they end up with a black screen. It seems that it launches another window that all other proton versions don't handle well. I'm not a Linux guru and the Steam Deck is my intro into Linux so it's possible that there is a different solution as well.
