Had to first switch to proton 6 to install EA (by starting the game), then switch back to default proton (hotfix) to launch the game

honestly considering the fix was essentially downgrading proton to a stable version from hotfix (default on steam) this is fantastic!
Middle mouse click in Sims 4/3 mode completly unusable unless downgraded to earlier version of proton, in my case 9.0-4 helped to eliviate the issue completly.
Stability, is the key. Hotfix proton patch was clearly having some issues with handling mouse input while holding middle mouse button. Hopefully this get's fixes so new and unexperienced linux users don't get into this frustraining issue.

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't
Tried a lot of different proton versions, launch options etc.
This game is a wild ride. A while ago I got it running relatively flawlessly first try, but then after not playing for half a year, it just didn't work anymore. Updates to the game, updates to the **** EA Launcher, god-knows-why. Tried switching proton versions, copied random launch commands from here, nothing fixed it. Sometimes I'd see the EA Launcher pop up, sometimes it even wanted to go through the installation process again, but the furthest I got was the "processing shaders" dialog. After that, the game would just immediately crash.
I then deleted the entire game, all data in relevant directories and started over. It worked first try with all settings at default. That was about a month ago. So now the game obviously downloaded a couple more updates, and when I tried starting it again yesterday, nothing worked, AGAIN. Did the whole version switching dance again, nothing worked, so I nuked everything all over again, but this time, no dice.
In general Proton is really cool and smooth sailing, but somehow this game is just horrible with it.

I had to use a sligtly old version of Proton-GE. Not sure if this is because I'm on Debian Stable - which usually uses a bit old versions of system libraries - or something else.
It would have been easier if I didn't have to install the GE version of Proton and things worked out-of-the-box, but in the end it wasn't that hard either.
Tried kept getting a ea app error
Runs completely fine

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip launcher
ok, so first i had to add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip launcher to the launch options. this finally did something, and it told me that there was not proper communication to port 3216. i then had to manually open this port via the terminal, using this guide: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/opening-a-port-on-linux I then removed PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip launcher from the launch options. also, i forced it into using proton experimental this whole time. after that it was smooth sailing :) hope this could save someone the time it took me to figure out, lol

Didnt work without GE Proton for me.

Except by a bug in audio on 7.1 devices, everything seems normal and fully working.
Audio is totally borked from the start if you use a 7.1 capable audio device. Had to change it in settings in-game for it to work.

Game did not launch directly from steam. Bottles + Proton GE was the only combination I could get working.

It works out of the box.
the only bad thing is that it installs ea play, that is bloat indeed... Specially since this is a single player game, its really unnecesary but ea forces an account to play this game...

DXVK_HUD=1 DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME=1 %command%
I needed to use low graphics
Right click to turn around does not work like it used to
It used to crash every few minutes. I now use a mod to (very frequently) autosave and it does no crash anymore.
It can work like a charm for weeks or months, but after a while, you end up forced to stop for a long time.

Not working - all versions of Proton tested
Just like noname a week ago. Tried every version of Proton (except for GE that I don't have installed yet), none is working for now. Some can launch the EA install, some not at all. None can launch the game. Quite exhausting

Doesnt start
%command%
Tried pretty much everything mentioned here. Installed with old version, tried uprading. Game starts with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 but is software rendered with CPU and veeeeryyy slow. Without that parameter doesnt start any window. Got EALaucher running manually from CLI but it has the same issue. Game doesnt start. Tried 10 different proton versions.

Apenas iniciei e o jogo rodou
I installed and ran it, without modifying anything, and the game worked perfectly. The only thing that bothered me a little was that Vulkan shader processing took about 1 hour and a half and it hadn't finished (it was still at 17%), so I pressed skip. But it worked without any problems anyway.

Deleted ALL compatdata files and switching to Proton 6.3-8 for the EA install
Switching to any version, using any options did not work. Deleting ALL files from compatdata (CAREFUL: first save folder /steamapps/compatdata/xxxxxx/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Electronic Arts/ if you want to keep your game), only then, switching to 6.3-8, running the install, switching back to GE9-27 and it works. Trying now with my saved game (copying back the folder in the new path): ......... it works!!!!

Tried Proton 4,5,6,GE...
None works, with or without some options listed by some users here. Proton 4 and 5 start the install of EA but with an error (no details on that error) 6 start the install, seems to work, but does not launch the game GE does nothing

Does not work
Launches preparing game window which eventually closes leaving two black square windows which do not close when clicking stop in steam.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip launcher

Need to followd hogsy's tip: The EA App launcher fails to launch until you select an older version of Proton (i.e., 6) Once it's installed, you can switch back to the latest Proton version.

runs very well, was able to create my favourite sim called anadius without any problems

Use Proton Experimental for opening EA App at first execution, then use any other proton version to run the game.
Gets stuck at the mandatory EA Play setup, can't progress further than that, even when trying something like the FOEA patch.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%
The game doesn't launch because of EA App crashing on start.
Because of that you need to install Origin first on a The Sims 4 prefix from the link on https://github.com/p0358/Fuck_off_EA_App - the easiest way to install it is to replace The Sims 4/__Installer/Origin/redist/internal/EAappInstaller.exe
with Origin installer file.
After that, get the FOEA patch installer from the same link as above and install it while checking the "Pretend EA App is installed" option. (Just so you won't have a further problem of Steam trying to run EA App installer)
At the end, put the launch options command and you should be able to run The Sims 4 fine.
In short, EA doesn't like Linux players.
works great, minor tweaks. skipping launcher was definitely the key to getting it running
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% --skip launcher

Como outros disseram, o EA App parece só instalar com Proton 7. Depois disso, é possÃvel retornar para outras versões, como GE, para jogar

.
Wine-staging
Bought thru EA so couldn't use steam. Game ran flawlessly as long as wine-staging and dxvk was installed.

Had to switch to proton experimental. Game itself works fine with different versions of wine/proton, but EA launcher was crashing at first which made it imposible to play
Requires using Proton experimental or it just wont run, but runs fine with experimental.

Steam compiles the shaders and nothing. Steam shows that I'm in game, but not even a second later steam says that I'm not playing at all.
Game crashes before I can see the window

EA Launcher kept crashing
Online connection didn't work because EA Launcher kept crashing
- Install GE-Proton 7-43 and install the game
- Set GE-Proton 7-43 as the used Proton version, open the game to install EA App
- Switch to Proton 9.0-3, relaunch the game to log in to EA
EA app kept crashing, not allowing online features. This may be mitigated by using a different version of Proton? This worked on Nobara, but I was getting similar issues on Arch and Debian based distros.

Works just fine through Steam
Other players reported issues with EA launcher, but it seems this does not apply to the steam version.

Cannot bypass EA app
Attempted to run through EA app with Lutris, but would not install correctly
Tried the following:
- switching to older proton versions to try and get EA app working
- switching back to newer proton versions
- installing EA app via Lutris
Not working even though I tried Proton Hotfix, 9.0, 7.0 and 6.3. Always hanged at 'Running install script ()'
