Game would not run using any of Steam's built-in compatibility options. I installed GE-Proton10-4 and the game is playable. Game seems to have better hit detection using a controller over mouse, this is the same experience I had playing under Windows as well. Only issue I came across was hitting Esc key made the game freeze, but I alt-tabbed to steam and stopped the game from running. Exiting from main menu with escape works fine.
