Only with this launch option I was able to launch the game. Other proton version doesn't matter. However, I was able to obtain only an useful error by launching Proton 6. Experimental, Hotfix, (I guess they're all based on Proton 9) and Proton 9 crashes without any error. The log file didn't help [me] either. Log file gave an "exception access violation" but that was very unclear to me.
Proton 6 gave the error: "Switching to resolution 1280x720 failed, trying lower one All resolution switches have failed Screen: DX11 could not switch resolution (1280x720 fs=0 hz=0)" With this, ChatGPT (embarassingly) recommended me a bunch of launch options to try and the one I used here worked.
One small note is that the game refused to be scaled by my window manager if ran on Proton 9, and only the in-game display settings work. Proton 6 works as fine as a native app. I also want to note that I have reproduced this problem on different desktop environments (Ubuntu, Cinnamon, i3wm). But the problem is with vulkan-based wine3d so that's understandable.
None of the videos except OP3 (Crossing Road) play properly by default - instead you see a video test pattern (similar to SMPTE color bars). Switching to Proton GE fixes this.
With Proton 8.0-4, game works well and OP can play normally.

Lowered FPS to 30, reduced TDP to 8 and GPU to 800Mhz
The default controls are not ideal. I suggest either downloading a community one or creating your own. Other than that, no issues experienced so far.
If you like VNs and your system is Linux it's a novel game to read.
In fullscreen mode after Alt-Tab won't go back to fullscreen (must be force closed). It is better to use borderless.
