Plays fine

gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Installed and hit play. Steam defaulted to Proton Experimental, which had no issues in the first campaign scenario. GPU usage was kinda high, but I assume that's an engine issue, not related to Proton.

Game freezes frequently shortly after the main menu opened.
Once the game worked for me with Proton 8.0.4 but not anymore. I used several Proton versions including experimental and GE-versions. The game just keeps freezing after clicking some options.

The game wouldn't even start with the latest (at this time) Proton GE-Proton9-5. I was tinkering and just decided to try Proton 8.0-5 and the game ran flawless in 2k resolution, all high graphics settings. No stuttering of the game or audio. I was going to try experimental, however, I don't want to risk swithing anything.

Performance isn't the best for this game as a whole, but it should run out of the box on Linux with stock Proton.
This isn't a very well optimized game, and even with my hardware, I had to fiddle a little with the settings here and there to make the game run smoothly at 3440x1440. It runs a little worse on Linux than Windows, but performance on Windows isn't great either.
If the game doesn't allow you to hit a smooth framerate, I'd recommend fiddling with the object density settings a little. Those seem to have a fairly large impact on performance in general.
The game also comes with the launcher that most Slitherine games seem to have these days. Launchers tend to occassionally have issues on Linux/Wine/Proton (because they use web tech or .NET), but this one works just fine. Just hit "Play" and you're good to go.

Didn't work for me. I tried to just run it and tried different versions of Proton to get it to work but it didn't work.
I tried 4.11-13, 5.10, and 6.8-GE-1
Used Proton 5.0.9 version. Game didn't launch with older versions.
Absolutely playable on linux
No video nor sound on intro screen, simply click to skip. Runs flawlessly but CPU consumption is about 400% (4-core filled up). Not a big deal for Ryzen owners :). Have to kill process to completely exit the game (a command like "pkill FG2" is fine in a terminal). No other bug or crash. Very good compatibility.
Intro video replaced by a black screen, but skipped easily with a mouse click to get the game menu. After that the games runs fine and stable, no crash at all. CPU consumption is high with 350%-450% average usage during play, but not a big deal with my 12-core AMD. Save game works, but the Exit game does not, simply swith to a linux terminal and launch "pkill FG2" to close it.
All in all the game runs fine enough though someone wanting beautiful graphics might end up being disappointed.
Dropping to very low fps makes mouse movement very choppy.
I was forced to go to minimum graphics settings and to decrease the resolution significantly to get ~10 fps which is barely enough to make the game playable. Newer versions of proton had even worse performance issues and I had to go down to the minimum resolution on them for similar performance. My computer isn't super impressive so it's not like performance is cripplingly bad but it's still a major issue.
The initial startup menu bugs out if you press anything other than the buttons and the game needs to be closed manually every time as it doesnt close normally. In addition the game opens to a black screen but don't worry the menus will appear if you wait a bit.
No luck launching the game.

At game start intro video produces a dark screen and no sound. Mouse click does not work for me to skip video but it looks like if I wait until the video play time is finished I get the start screen and can play without further issues. Exit the game don't work properly for me either and a process kill is required.
Apart from that the game works flawlessly

So far only problem noticed when exiting the game. In start there might be also something fishy, as there's a black screen, but after one mouse click all looks fine and no issues after that. Maybe some intro video that doesn't play properly...

Game runs fine, but does not exit properly. Process needs to be killed manually.
